Juvé & Camps is part of the GLOBALVITI R & D project which, together with some of the most important wineries and companies in the sector in Spain, join forces to improve wine production in the face of climate change based on robotics, IT technology and biotechnological strategies and vineyard management.
This project is part of the Strategic Program of Consortia of National Business Research (CIEN), which seeks to finance large experimental development initiatives in strategic areas of the future and with potential international projection. The Board of Directors of the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) of the Ministry of Economy approved the implementation of the project on November 30, 2016.
GLOBALVITI, which will be carried out over the next four years, has an investment of 8.8 million euros to realize its main objective: to position the Spanish wine sector as a world reference in the search of solutions and application of innovative techniques in relation to diseases of the wood, the integral management of the vineyard and the vinification processes as a result of the climatic change.
The diseases of wood of the 21st century are considered at the same level as phylloxera. Currently, the annual cost of replanting the vine in the world totals more than 1,100 million euros. In Spain, an average of between 3% and 20% of affected plants is estimated, generating very high losses.
The project is led by Bodegas Torres and has the participation of Juvé & Camps, Bodegas Pago de Carraovejas, Bodegas Ramón Bilbao, Bodegas Martín Códax and also the Hispatec Group, Pellenc Ibérica wine company and Viveros Villanueva Vides.
