One land, one family and a strong dedication are what mark out the history of Juvé & Camps, our story. Four generations rooted in the Penedès region have left their unique mark, wisdom and experience in every glass of our great cavas and wines.
To go back to the start of our story, we need to turn the clock back to 1796. Over 200 years ago, Joan Juvé Mir, an enterprising wine-grower with a vision for the future laid the ground work for the business. Later on, his son, Antoni Juvé took the reins and had to face the consequences of the grape phylloxera plague.
The first Juvé brand sparkling wine appeared in 1921. The underground installations were dug out in the family’s ancestral home in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and, during this time, it was Joan Juvé, the son of Antoni Juvé and his wife Teresa Camps who were looking after the vineyards.
The following generation, Josep and Joan Juvé Camps, the sons of Joan and Teresa, got involved with the business and bolstered it with the construction of a new winery on the outskirts of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia. In 1960, they took charge of expanding the winery and the underground cellars. Furthermore, they implemented technological advances such as temperature control and pneumatic presses.
1972 was a year to remember for Juvé & Camps, when they created the first bottle of the Gran Juvé Camps cava. It is an extraordinary Gran Reserva brut nature cava, created with wine from the vines in Espiells, only in special vintages. A few years later, in 1976, the Reserva de la Família cava was born. A Gran Reserva brut nature cava that was initially only intended for the consumption of the Juvé family.
The little family business had turned into a thriving trade and, soon enough, in 1982, the cavas started being exported internationally to the United Kingdom, the USA, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Japan, Peru, etc. This growth was also reflected in the estates with the construction of a new winery on the family estate in Espiells, where base wines are created for cava and for still wines.
At the start of the 2000s, Juvé & Camps consolidated its top spot in the creation of Premium and Gran Reserva cavas. Later, in 2010, the reconversion process was started on the vines to achieve integrated and ecological viticulture. The result: better quality for grapes, greater potential for oenology and better expression of the soils.
Here at Juvé & Camps, we hold dear to the authenticity we have inherited from generations gone by and we bring innovation and modernity with a youthful spirit. We continue to write new chapters in our story to turn our premium cavas and wines into a great legend.
