Aged in first and second year French oak casks with a very fine grain, then refined in “foudre” vats and bottle-aged for two years on average.
This wine pays tribute to the founder of the winery and originates in Mediona. The long maceration period reveals its intense red colour and the deep fruit notes (blackcurrants, plums, blackberries, cherries) that are present on the nose, as well as the nuances from the cask ageing (cinnamon, cloves, vanilla). As it opens up in the glass, it begins to develop notes of confit fruit, figgy bread and high roast. On the palate it is full and vigorous, with velvety tannins and exuberant ripe fruit sensations that appear again in the tremendous finish. A good cellaring red that ensures harmonious evolution for at least a decade.
Iohannes pairs well with cured sausages, cheese, stews and red meat.
Casa Vella d’Espiells
The nobility of the Bordeaux varieties that grow in Mediona, in our highest vineyards, determine the profile of this red that seduces from the first glance with a cherry colour with a hint of ageing. Its aromatic expression is intense and deep, with a complex palette of nuances that include ripe red fruit, spices and toasted nuts on a rich background of hard wood. It is unctuous and opulent on the palate, with good intensity and concentration and a lasting finish with marked notes of spices. The tannins, mature and well structured, ensure it has a long bottle life.
Casa Vella pairs well with rice dishes, cheese, and red and white meat.
A merlot monovarietal, Viña Escarlata is made with grapes grown in the vineyards in Mediona. It is a rich and flavourful red, expressing the typical characteristics of this variety, with a deep cherry colour in the glass and clear notes of ripe plums, toasted nuts, vanilla, cinnamon and balsamic touches on the nose. It is unctuous, broad and persistent on the palate, with a seductively silky texture and firm tannins that will allow it to evolve well for at least five years.
Viña Escarlata pairs well with cured sausages, cheese, stews, red and white meat and fish.
